“As expected”? Yikes.
There was a note in the Adventure Cycling addenda that many of the stores would be closed in the off-season (that is, when it gets hot). Today, my route has 8 miles to the next store, then 26 miles, then 21 miles. But I can’t count on them being open in these little towns with populations in 2 or 3 digits. That’s why I carry cashew nuts, salami, and rolls.
Oh, also, in this area, I started to see foot-long lizards on the road, that scampered away as I rode by. Sandy in color, maybe a little pinkish tint. Too fast, couldn’t get a picture.
