Note: I don’t know whether any of the actual route will look like this.

Two weeks before the start of the trip. Yeah, I could lose a few pounds.

Hi, Roderick here. I’m old enough to qualify for AARP, but not quite old enough to get the senior discount at Hometown Buffet. Merrianne (my wife) is not interested roughing it this time, so I’m traveling solo. The South is the only region of the United States that I have never really visited. There’s a standard bicycle route, the Southern Tier, which I’ll be following.  But first I have to get to the start of the route in San Diego, which is perhaps 450 miles away.  So all in all, the trip should be about 3500 miles, and Lord willing, take about two months.  If you pray, I would appreciate your prayers for safety.

Here is the very first post to this blog.

I hit the road 7 years, 8 months, 4 days, 18 hours, 9 minutes ago.

I wanted to leave earlier to avoid the desert heat, but the best I can do is after Easter (and Tax Day).

If I put up any pictures that I shouldn’t have, or if you want a high-res copy of one of them, I can be reached at:
