The coffee machine has a little drawer that holds a filter bag of coffee.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" title=\"coffee ramen\" alt=\"coffee ramen\" src=\"http:\/\/pididu.com\/wordpress\/alaska2015\/files\/2015\/06\/CoffeeRamen.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Unfortunately, Merrianne made ramen right after that, and forgot to take out the coffee bag.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/pididu.com\/wordpress\/alaska2015\/files\/2015\/06\/dredge1.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Our morning excursion was to a gold dredge. That big pipe in the background has nothing to do with the dredge.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/pididu.com\/wordpress\/alaska2015\/files\/2015\/06\/dredge2.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">From the entrance, we got on a little train that took us to the actual dredge.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" title=\"dredge\" alt=\"dredge\" src=\"http:\/\/pididu.com\/wordpress\/alaska2015\/files\/2015\/06\/dredge3.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">And this is the dredge &#8211; a huge, boat-like factory that moves along scooping up dirt, separating gold, and spitting out tailings.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/pididu.com\/wordpress\/alaska2015\/files\/2015\/06\/pan1.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">While there, we got to try our hand at panning gold.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" title=\"flecks of gold in pan\" alt=\"flecks of gold in pan\" src=\"http:\/\/pididu.com\/wordpress\/alaska2015\/files\/2015\/06\/pan2.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Merrianne got $12 worth. I got $7 worth. We put our gold flakes together and Merrianne bought a locket to put them in.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Alaska Pipeline\" alt=\"Alaska Pipeline\" src=\"http:\/\/pididu.com\/wordpress\/alaska2015\/files\/2015\/06\/pipeline1.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Just before leaving the dredge, we were shown the pipe, which is a section of the Alaska Pipeline.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/pididu.com\/wordpress\/alaska2015\/files\/2015\/06\/pipeline2.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"pig\" src=\"http:\/\/pididu.com\/wordpress\/alaska2015\/files\/2015\/06\/pipeline3.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">This is a &#8220;pig&#8221; that passes through the pipeline from station to station, keeping the pipeline clear inside. Note the First Nation spelling of the name for the pipeline.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" title=\"painted vent\" alt=\"painted vent\" src=\"http:\/\/pididu.com\/wordpress\/alaska2015\/files\/2015\/06\/vent.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"737\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Many of the buildings in Fairbanks have these vents coming up from the ground, sometimes blowing warm air. Every one that we saw was painted in a different way.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/pididu.com\/wordpress\/alaska2015\/files\/2015\/06\/IntoWild.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">After lunch, we took a long bus ride to Denali. The tour guide pointed out this area, which is where the bus is that the guy in &#8220;Into the Wild&#8221; died in. The locals hate it, because tourists come looking for the bus, and some get lost and have to be rescued.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" title=\"see it?\" alt=\"see it?\" src=\"http:\/\/pididu.com\/wordpress\/alaska2015\/files\/2015\/06\/moose1.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Just after that, I heard someone yell, &#8220;Moose! Moose!&#8221; There was a moose and calf right on the right side of the bus. I tried to take a picture, but it didn&#8217;t come out well. Can you see the moose? In fact, all of my animal pictures came out terrible.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" title=\"how about this one?\" alt=\"how about this one?\" src=\"http:\/\/pididu.com\/wordpress\/alaska2015\/files\/2015\/06\/moose2.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Here&#8217;s another moose we saw near the visitor&#8217;s center. I use the term, &#8220;saw,&#8221; loosely.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" title=\"one of maybe a dozen buildings\" alt=\"one of maybe a dozen buildings\" src=\"http:\/\/pididu.com\/wordpress\/alaska2015\/files\/2015\/06\/chalet1.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">We arrived at the McKinley Chalet, a property owned by Holland America. There&#8217;s a little commercial area with resorts and shops just outside the border of Denali National Park.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/pididu.com\/wordpress\/alaska2015\/files\/2015\/06\/chalet2.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">The chalet was a considerable distance downhill from the main road, but the complex had a shuttle bus that ran every 15 minutes to take people around the property. Wi-fi is free, but only at the lobby, which is a 15-minute walk from our room.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Palin mugs\" alt=\"Palin mugs\" src=\"http:\/\/pididu.com\/wordpress\/alaska2015\/files\/2015\/06\/PalinMug.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">These were in the bargain section of a gift shop.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Denali Salmon Bake\" alt=\"Denali Salmon Bake\" src=\"http:\/\/pididu.com\/wordpress\/alaska2015\/files\/2015\/06\/SalmonBake1.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Merrianne and I went to the Salmon Bake for dinner.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" title=\"mosquito on placemat\" alt=\"mosquito on placemat\" src=\"http:\/\/pididu.com\/wordpress\/alaska2015\/files\/2015\/06\/SalmonBake2.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">While we were waiting for our dinner to arrive, I slapped a mosquito.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" title=\"king crab and salmon\" alt=\"king crab and salmon\" src=\"http:\/\/pididu.com\/wordpress\/alaska2015\/files\/2015\/06\/SalmonBake3.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">The market price for King Crab was $42. I normally wouldn&#8217;t buy a dinner that expensive, but decided to get it since we were on vacation.
